TLDR Caffeine causes sleep problems in many medical students.
This review examines the relationship between caffeine consumption and insomnia among medical students, highlighting that regular intake of caffeinated drinks is common among this group to combat fatigue and enhance cognitive functions. However, it is associated with negative health effects, particularly insomnia, with 30% to nearly 50% of surveyed students reporting sleep disorders. Insomnia negatively impacts academic performance due to its role in memory retention and information processing. The study emphasizes the need for better education on caffeine's side effects and safe consumption levels to mitigate health risks among future doctors.
