The study explores the relationship between C-tactile (CT) afferents and hair follicles in humans, involving 16 participants. It finds that CT afferents respond to hair deflection with firing frequencies similar to soft brushing, suggesting a functional link between CT afferents and hair follicles. The research highlights CT afferents' sensitivity to hair movement, with minimal skin displacement observed during hair deflection. The study also notes after-discharge activity following hair plucking, lasting about 7.1 seconds. While the study suggests an anatomical coupling, it acknowledges the need for further research with larger sample sizes to confirm these findings and better understand CT mechanosensitivity.
