TLDR Aspergillus niger culture creates two finasteride derivatives with enzyme-inhibiting effects.
The study investigated the biotransformation of finasteride by Aspergillus niger culture to produce biologically active oxidized derivatives. Two metabolites were identified and characterized as 11a-hydroxyfinasteride and 15ß-hydroxyfinasteride, which were found to possess inhibitory effects on lipoxygenase enzyme. The study suggests that the biological potential of a compound can be improved through microbial technology.
