TLDR COVID-19 can cause hair loss due to stress, with inflammation markers like D-dimer levels playing a role.
This study investigates the biochemical biomarkers associated with telogen effluvium (TE) in 108 post-COVID-19 patients, comprising 64 males and 44 females. The research found significant sex differences in blood parameters such as hemoglobin, red and white blood cell counts, platelets, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein levels. Additionally, D-dimer levels varied significantly across age groups, with lower levels in individuals aged 26-35 and higher levels in those aged 46 and above. The study concludes that COVID-19 can lead to TE due to stress from the infection, with persistent elevated D-dimer levels potentially linked to inflammatory markers.
