TLDR Thyroid function may influence hair loss after COVID-19.
This study examined the relationship between thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), ferritin levels, and hair loss in 100 female COVID-19 survivors. It found a significant association between high TSH levels and hair loss (p<0.001), suggesting that thyroid function may influence post-COVID-19 hair loss. Ferritin levels, however, did not show a significant correlation (p=0.492). TSH was a viable predictor for hair loss (AUC 0.737, sensitivity 84%, specificity 46%), while ferritin was not (AUC 0.519). The study concludes that thyroid function may play a role in hair loss after COVID-19, but further research is needed to understand the mechanisms involved.
