TLDR The new adhesive seals wounds quickly, works well in wet conditions, and helps with healing.
This study introduces a degradable and bioactive citrate-based polyurethane adhesive designed to provide rapid and strong tissue adhesion, particularly in wet environments. The adhesive overcomes the limitations of current tissue adhesives and sutures by forming a hydrophobic layer with polycaprolactone, which enhances wet bonding strength. It offers a non-invasive, liquid-tight, and seamless closure for skin incisions and exhibits biocompatibility, biodegradability, and hemostatic properties. Additionally, the degradation product, citrate, promotes angiogenesis and accelerates wound healing. This research presents a novel solution for fast-adhering wet tissue adhesives and contributes to the advancement of polyurethane-based tissue adhesives.
