TLDR Benzalkonium chloride effectively treats skin fungus in guinea pigs.
The study evaluated the efficacy of benzalkonium chloride in treating dermatomycosis caused by Trichophyton sp. in guinea pigs (Cavia cobayo). It involved 200 guinea pigs, divided into two groups: one treated with a 0.1% benzalkonium chloride solution and the other with a placebo. Results showed that 100% of the treated group experienced clinical recovery with hair regrowth by the end of the 4th week post-treatment. The treatment achieved 70% efficacy by the third week without causing skin damage or being affected by organic matter.
