TLDR The monkeys' skin infection was cured in eight weeks using oral terbinafine, topical washes, and disinfectant fogging.
An outbreak of Trichophyton dermatophytosis in four L'Hoest's monkeys was successfully managed using a novel treatment regimen. The monkeys exhibited non-pruritic alopecia, scaling, and crusting. Diagnosis was confirmed through culture and direct microscopy of hair samples. Treatment included oral terbinafine (8.25 mg/kg), topical enilconazole washes, and disinfectant fogging of the enclosure. The regimen effectively controlled the infection, with clinical signs resolving in four weeks and mycological cure achieved in eight weeks. Control measures were also implemented to limit infection spread and reduce zoonotic risk.
