TLDR Ayurvedic hair treatments need scientific research to validate their effectiveness.
The editorial highlighted the neglect of Ayurvedic hair science in modern clinical research despite its potential to address global hair and scalp disorders. Ayurveda, with its 3,000-year history, offers insights into hair health through keshya chikitsa, focusing on dosha balance and dhatu nourishment. Common Ayurvedic treatments include botanicals like Bhringaraja and Amla, but their efficacy is mostly anecdotal. The article emphasized the need for rigorous clinical trials and pharmacognostic standardization to validate these treatments. It called for collaborative research efforts to integrate Ayurvedic knowledge with modern science, supported by frameworks from WHO and India's Ministry of AYUSH, to enhance dermatological treatments for hair disorders.
