TLDR Autosomal recessive woolly hair is rare and involves tightly coiled hair without other health issues.
This study examines eight cases of autosomal recessive woolly hair (ARWH) in an Indian population, revealing that the condition is more prevalent in India than previously recognized. ARWH is marked by tightly coiled hair and varying hypotrichosis, with normal hair at birth that ceases to grow. The study found that topical minoxidil 2% applied twice daily for 6 months improved hair density, thickness, and length in six patients. The research emphasizes the need for awareness of clinical features and medical history for diagnosis, as genetic testing was not conducted due to consent and financial limitations.
