TLDR 2Br-Crebanine and Stephanine reduce inflammation and pain effectively.
The study explores the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of 2Br-Crebanine (2Br-Cre) and Stephanine (Step) from Stephania yunnanenses. 2Br-Cre showed superior anti-inflammatory activity and significantly lower toxicity compared to Crebanine. Both compounds were tested on 90 mice and 72 rats for anti-inflammatory effects, and 165 mice for analgesic effects, demonstrating significant reduction in edema and inflammatory markers, and increased pain thresholds. The compounds inhibited pro-inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide in vitro, suggesting modulation of inflammatory pathways. Analgesic effects were linked to opioid receptors. The study suggests these compounds have potential for pharmaceutical development, though further research is needed on their mechanisms and safety profiles.
