TLDR Androgens can help prevent memory problems caused by apoE4.
The study found that apolipoprotein E4 (apoE4) increased the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and impaired spatial learning and memory, particularly in female mice. Androgen treatment improved memory deficits in female apoE4 mice but had no effect on female apoE3 mice. Male apoE4 mice developed memory deficits after androgen receptor (AR) blockade, unlike male apoE3 mice. Untreated apoE4 mice had lower cytosolic AR levels in the neocortex compared to other groups. Androgen treatment increased AR levels and improved memory in female apoE4 mice, suggesting that apoE4-induced cognitive decline could be mitigated by stimulating AR-dependent pathways.

The conversation discusses the effectiveness of anti-androgens for hair loss, with a preference for topical treatments like RU58841 over oral options due to better scalp concentration and fewer side effects. Topical finasteride at 0.1% may provide some results, especially when combined with a topical androgen receptor antagonist like RU58841.

People discussed their experiences with anti-androgens for hair loss, mentioning side effects like chest pains with RU58841 and skepticism due to lack of safety data, while considering Fluridil as a potential addition to treatment. Some users expressed reluctance to use these chemicals.

An 18-year-old male used anti-androgens and oral Minoxidil for 10 months to treat hair loss. He initially used 1mg Finasteride and 5% topical Minoxidil for 5 months, then switched to Dutasteride for 4.5 months and inconsistently used 5mg oral Minoxidil for 2 months due to availability issues.
