TLDR Hyperandrogenism does not affect the quality of blastocysts in PCOS patients undergoing IVF.
The study aimed to investigate if there is a difference in blastocyst quality between hyperandrogenic and classical PCOS patients undergoing IVF. A total of 109 IVF cycles from patients with PCOS were analyzed, with 53 cycles from hyperandrogenic PCOS patients and 56 from classical PCOS patients. The blastocyst quality score (BQS), calculated using the Gardner and Schoolcraft criteria, showed no significant difference between the two groups (p=0.59), with the hyperandrogenic group having an average BQS of 16.464 and the non-hyperandrogenic group having 15.881. Additionally, pregnancy outcomes were similar between both groups (p=0.70). The study concluded that while hyperandrogenic PCOS patients may have fewer utilizable embryos, the quality of blastocysts is not the cause. Therefore, these patients might need to undergo more IVF cycles to achieve their family planning goals. Further research is needed to identify other factors that may contribute to the lower blastocyst utilization rate in hyperandrogenic PCOS patients.
