TLDR Androgen increases VEGF expression but not VEGFR-2 in rat corpus cavernous.
The study investigated the effect of androgen on VEGF and VEGFR-2 expression in rat corpus cavernous using 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into four groups. Results showed that castration and administration of the 5alpha-reductase inhibitor finasteride significantly reduced VEGF and VEGFmRNA expression compared to controls and testosterone-supplemented groups. However, androgen status did not affect Flk-1/KDR expression. The study concluded that androgen, particularly DHT, up-regulated VEGF expression but not VEGFR-2 in rat corpus cavernous.
