TLDR Androgenetic alopecia may indicate higher risk for certain diseases and mental health issues.
The literature review suggests that androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is not just a cosmetic issue but may also be a biomarker and risk factor for systemic diseases. Studies show that individuals with AGA are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases, metabolic or endocrine disorders, and possibly prostate and scalp cancers. AGA also has a negative impact on mental health. The review emphasizes the need for an interdisciplinary approach for early detection and prevention of diseases and calls for further research to understand the mechanisms linking AGA to systemic conditions and to create screening protocols.
