TLDR Hair loss common in men and women, limited treatments available.
Androgenetic alopecia is a common form of hair loss that affects both men and women due to genetic and hormonal factors. The condition can cause anxiety, and while there are limited treatment options available, patients can be reassured that they will not immediately become completely bald. Treatment options include medications like minoxidil and finasteride, as well as hair transplant surgery. However, these treatments are not very successful, and surgical techniques may result in obvious scars or isolated grafts. Basic laboratory studies should be conducted to rule out other causes that may mimic diffuse alopecia in women.
