TLDR Some patients with hair loss after mild COVID-19 had positive tests for certain autoantibodies.
The study found that 40% of patients with hair loss after mild COVID-19 infection showed Antinuclear Antibody (ANA) positivity, which is consistent with previous studies. Surprisingly, 83.3% of these patients exhibited cytoplasmic ANA patterns, even at a low titer of 1:100, which is different from previous studies. This suggests that hair loss after COVID-19 may be triggered by the release of autoantibodies in response to the infection. The study also found a significant relationship between trichodynia (a symptom often associated with hair loss conditions) and diffuse hair loss, but no significant relationship between ANA positivity and trichodynia or between trichodynia and autoimmunity. The study did not measure certain antibodies or perform scalp biopsies due to lack of financial support.
