TLDR An alternating inflatable head pad reduced pressure ulcers and hair loss in heart surgery patients.
This study compared the effects of an alternating inflatable head pad versus a gel pad on the incidence of postoperative occipital pressure ulcers and alopecia areata (AA) in 120 patients undergoing open heart surgery. Results showed a significantly lower incidence and severity of pressure ulcers and AA in the experimental group (1/60) compared to the control group (9/60) (P<0.01). The alternating inflatable head pad effectively reduced the incidence and severity of occipital pressure ulcers and alopecia, improving postoperative nursing care and patient quality of life. The study suggested further research with a larger sample size to fully evaluate the device's potential applications.
