TLDR A man with alopecia universalis regrew hair temporarily after a bone treatment.
A 21-year-old man with alopecia universalis experienced hair regrowth after participating in a phase 1 trial where his tibial fracture was treated with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) in a calcium phosphate matrix. Six weeks post-treatment, he noticed hair regrowth on his scalp, which extended to other areas such as eyebrows and arms. This regrowth was maintained for 6 months before the alopecia universalis returned. The treatment did not result in any complications, and his fracture healed successfully.
