TLDR Alopecia can be a symptom of Neonatal Lupus.
Neonatal Lupus, a rare disease in infants of mothers with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) antibodies, was identified in a 1-month-old female presenting with persistent bloody diarrhea, dehydration, metabolic acidosis, and alopecia. The diagnosis was confirmed through positive Anti-Ro autoimmunity tests in both the infant and her mother. Initial treatment with methylprednisolone showed little improvement, but subsequent azathioprine treatment resulted in a good clinical response and reduced Anti-Ro values. This case highlighted the importance of clinical observation in diagnosing rare conditions, particularly when unusual symptoms like alopecia are present.
