A Case of Alopecia Areata Responding to Topical 1% Pimecrolimus Treatment

    TLDR Topical 1% pimecrolimus effectively treated alopecia areata.
    This article presented a case of alopecia areata, a nonscarring autoimmune inflammatory disease causing hair loss, which responded positively to topical 1% pimecrolimus treatment. The etiopathogenesis of alopecia areata remained unknown, with potential factors including emotional stress, immunologic and neurologic factors, infections, and genetic predisposition. Various treatments such as topical corticosteroids, immunomodulators, minoxidil, tacrolimus, intralesional and systemic corticosteroids, and cyclosporin were commonly used. The case highlighted the effectiveness of pimecrolimus as a treatment option.
