Alopecia Areata as a Sequela of Post-Reinfection COVID-19

TLDR COVID-19 reinfection may trigger alopecia areata.
The document reports a case of a 32-year-old male doctor who developed alopecia areata (AA) one month after being reinfected with COVID-19. The patient had no personal or family history of autoimmune or trichological disorders. Trichoscopy showed typical AA features, and treatment with topical minoxidil and tretinoin for three months yielded excellent results. The study suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection and related stress may trigger AA by disrupting hair follicle immune privilege and inducing neurogenic inflammation. This case is the fourth reported instance of new onset AA post-COVID-19, and the first associated with COVID-19 reinfection, highlighting a potential link between the virus and AA.
