TLDR Yellow dots were the most common sign of alopecia areata found using trichoscopy.
In 2020, a study was conducted on 122 patients with clinically diagnosed alopecia areata to determine the trichoscopic findings in the adult population. Trichoscopy, a non-invasive modality, was used for rapid detection of alopecia areata, predicting the cause of the disease, and reducing unnecessary biopsies. The most common trichoscopic findings were yellow dots, observed in 108 (88.5%) patients, followed by short vellus hair in 66 (54.1%) patients, short regrowing hair in 58 (47.5%) patients, exclamation mark hair in 56 (45.9%) patients, black dots in 44 (36.1%) patients, and broken hair in 34 (27.9%) patients.
