TLDR Alopecia areata causes hair loss and needs personalized care to manage its emotional and social effects.
Alopecia areata (AA) is an immune-mediated disease causing non-scarring hair loss, influenced by genetic and environmental factors that trigger autoimmune inflammation in hair follicles. It significantly affects patients' quality of life due to its psychological impact. Despite various treatments, effective management is challenging, particularly for patients with other health issues. The authors suggest diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms to customize patient care based on age, disease severity, and quality of life, highlighting the need for comprehensive care and understanding of the emotional and social challenges faced by individuals with AA.
