Bright New World: Aesthetic Applications of Low-Level Light Therapy for Hair Growth and Hair Loss Prevention

Marcelo Victor Pires de Sousa, Maria Cristina Chavantes
TLDR Low-level light therapy can help with hair growth and preventing hair loss.
This chapter discussed the aesthetic applications of low-level light therapy (LLLT) for hair growth, hair loss prevention, and treatment of hair diseases. It covered the physiology of hair growth phases (anagen, catagen, telogen) and main triggers of hair loss like aging and chemotherapy. Current treatment options, particularly LLLT and its advantages, were highlighted. Historical aspects, in vivo studies, and clinical trials of LLLT were reviewed. Proposed mechanisms of LLLT for hair regrowth and hair loss, along with phototherapy devices, were presented. The chapter concluded with future perspectives on aesthetic applications in hair research.
