TLDR Isotretinoin is safe and effective for acne, with common side effects like dry lips; serious side effects are rare.
The study assessed the safety of oral isotretinoin in 150 patients with acne vulgaris, aged 15 to 32 years, by monitoring clinical adverse effects and laboratory changes before and during treatment. Cheilitis was the most frequent side effect, affecting 94% of patients, while systemic effects like headaches and hearing problems were rare. Laboratory tests showed minimal, non-significant changes in cholesterol, triglycerides, and liver enzymes. The study concluded that isotretinoin is a safe and well-tolerated medication for acne, with the benefits outweighing the risks, although it highlighted the need for careful monitoring of teratogenic risks and the use of contraception in female patients.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) impacts various skin conditions, including Androgenetic alopecia and seborrheic dermatitis, by causing overactivity in sebaceous glands. Topical medications Tacrolimus and Clobetasol can reduce these inflammatory conditions, and treatments like RU58841, Minoxidil, and Finasteride may also be beneficial.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Isotretinoin and tretinoin are different; isotretinoin can cause hair loss and has more side effects. Tretinoin may affect minoxidil absorption, and users suggest waiting before applying minoxidil.
