TLDR Using adipose derived stem cells and growth factors in hair transplants may improve healing and hair growth.
The 2014 study "Adipose Derived Stem Cells and Growth Factors Applied on Hair Transplantation. Follow-Up of Clinical Outcome" investigated the use of adipose derived stem cells (ADSC) and growth factors in hair transplantation. The study involved three patients who underwent hair restoration surgery with the application of ADSC and growth factors. The researchers used the Rigenera system to extract and process cells from the patients' adipose tissue. The results showed that the cellular vitality was 93% for the first patient and 74% for the second, indicating a good outcome after mechanical fragmentation. Two weeks after transplantation, the healing of micro wounds was complete and hair growth was observed. The patients reported very mild to no pain and a reduction in post-operative swelling and edema. The researchers concluded that the application of ADSC and growth factors in hair transplantation could improve the healing process and aid in hair growth and engraftment of transplanted hair.
