TLDR Adipose stem cell-derived exosomes may improve hair count and scalp health, potentially outperforming current treatments like minoxidil.
Adipose Stem Cell-derived Exosomes (ASCE) are being recognized as a potential cell-free treatment for hair loss and scalp rejuvenation, according to in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies. In a clinical study involving 29 subjects, microneedling procedures with topical ASCE treatment for 6 months resulted in an increase of 9 more hair counts per 1cm2, from a baseline of 180 to 189. ASCE was found to reduce cellular aging of human dermal papilla cells from UVB irradiation in vitro and effectively increase the length and thickness of human hairs derived from ex vivo human hair follicles for 8 days, outperforming minoxidil. The ASCE formulation also showed significant improvement in clinical cases of androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata, suggesting that ASCE could be the next-generation technology for scalp and hair regeneration and anti-inflammation.
