TLDR Adenosine lotion improves hair growth and thickness in women with hair loss.
A pilot study conducted in Japan found that adenosine, a molecule that stimulates hair growth, can improve female pattern hair loss (FPHL) in women by increasing hair growth and thickness. The study involved 27 Japanese women with FPHL who were randomly assigned to receive either an adenosine lotion or a placebo lotion for 12 months. At 6 and 12 months, the adenosine group reported significant improvements in hair growth and prevention of hair loss compared to the placebo group. The researchers suggest that lotions containing adenosine could be useful in treating FPHL in women and androgenetic alopecia in men.
