TLDR The woman's skin and health issues were due to a severe zinc deficiency.
A 34-year-old woman presented with skin lesions, recurrent diarrhea, and diffuse hair loss, which were linked to acrodermatitis enteropathica, a condition associated with zinc deficiency. Her serum zinc level was significantly low at 22 µg/dl, compared to the normal range of 70-130 µg/dl. The skin lesions, which began on her legs and spread to other areas, were characterized by erythematous plaques with irregular margins and erosions. Despite no history of gastrointestinal issues, her excessive alcohol consumption contributed to an abnormal liver profile, complicating her condition.
