TLDR Zinc supplements and diet changes can effectively treat zinc deficiency and prevent complications.
This case report described a 22-year-old female with acrodermatitis enteropathica (ADE), an uncommon disorder due to defective zinc absorption, presenting with peri-orificial erythematous rashes and diffuse alopecia. The patient had no underlying comorbid conditions, and her zinc deficiency was attributed to a deficient dietary intake. Clinical examination revealed erythematous scaly plaques and diffuse hair thinning. Histopathological findings supported the diagnosis of ADE. The patient was treated with zinc supplements and dietary modifications, highlighting the importance of recognizing and treating zinc deficiency to prevent severe complications.
