TLDR Don't ignore acne treatment to avoid scars and emotional trauma.
Acne was described as the most common skin disease affecting nearly everyone at some point, particularly during adolescence. The severity and number of acne lesions typically decreased after the teenage years, but it was incorrect for physicians to advise doing nothing, as this could lead to permanent scarring and emotional trauma. Acne involved the pilosebaceous unit, which included the hair follicle and sebaceous gland, and was unique to humans.
