TLDR Abnormal amino acid metabolism may worsen rosacea symptoms.
The study explored the impact of amino acid metabolism on neurovascular reactivity in rosacea, involving 57 rosacea patients and 63 healthy controls, with further validation in 30 patients and 20 controls. Using targeted metabolomics, researchers identified significant differences in metabolite profiles between rosacea patients and healthy individuals, indicating that aberrant amino acid metabolism might contribute to the condition. Experiments on mice and cell cultures supported these findings, showing that doxycycline could regulate glutamic and aspartic acid levels, suggesting a potential therapeutic mechanism. The study highlighted the importance of metabolic pathways in understanding and treating rosacea.
