TLDR Hibiscus rosa-sinensis has potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, but more research is needed.
Hibiscus rosa sinensis, commonly known as the China rose, is widely used in tropical regions for its medicinal properties, including treating hair loss, wounds, inflammation, and infections. The plant's therapeutic effects are attributed to its bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, and alkaloids. Recent studies have shown that extracts from various parts of the plant exhibit numerous beneficial effects, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and antioxidant properties, with minimal toxicity at higher doses. However, some extracts affect hematological and biochemical markers, indicating the need for further research to understand the phytochemicals' mechanisms and to conduct clinical trials to explore its full therapeutic potential.
