TLDR Hibiscus flowers have many medicinal benefits and are generally safe.
Hibiscus rosa Sinensis, commonly known as China rose, has numerous medicinal uses, including treating wounds, inflammation, fever, coughs, diabetes, bacterial and fungal infections, hair loss, and gastric ulcers. The plant's bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, and alkaloids, contribute to its wide range of beneficial effects, including hypotensive, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, wound healing, and abortifacient activities. Toxicity studies indicate that most extracts are non-toxic at higher doses, though some affect biochemical and hematological parameters. Further research is needed to isolate specific phytochemicals and understand their mechanisms, with a focus on clinical trials to explore therapeutic potential.
