Post-finasteride syndrome (PFS) is a recognized condition that can occur in men who have taken finasteride, a drug used for hair loss and enlarged prostate. Symptoms of PFS can be sexual, physical, mental, and neurological in nature and may persist even after the patient has stopped taking finasteride. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for PFS and few effective treatments. Patients and their families should be advised of these symptoms, and immediate medical advice should be sought if suicidal ideation and depression occur. The Centre for Adverse Reactions has received 10 reports linking the use of finasteride with at least one symptom of PFS.
