TLDR A new compound effectively inhibits human 5α-reductase 1.
Researchers designed and synthesized new type 1 5α-reductase inhibitors using a 3,3-diphenylpentane skeleton instead of the traditional steroid skeleton. One of the compounds, 4-(3-(4-(N-Methylacetamido)phenyl)pentan-3-yl)phenyl dibenzylcarbamate (11k), was identified as a competitive inhibitor with an IC(50) value of 0.84 μM.
