TLDR 3-Deoxysappanchalcone helps human hair cells grow and stimulates hair growth in mice by affecting certain cell signaling pathways.
The study from November 1, 2016, demonstrated that 3-Deoxysappanchalcone (3-DSC) promotes the proliferation of human hair follicle dermal papilla cells and stimulates hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. The research showed that 3-DSC modulates WNT/β-catenin and STAT signaling pathways, enhancing the phosphorylation of β-catenin and STAT3, and increasing the expression of hair growth-related genes such as Cdk4, FGF, and VEGF. Conversely, it reduced STAT6 mRNA expression and IL4-induced STAT6 phosphorylation. In mice, topical application of 3-DSC for 15 days resulted in rapid and intense hair growth. The study concluded that 3-DSC could be a potential therapeutic agent for hair growth, although the number of human participants was not specified, the number of mice used in the hair growth experiment was 8 (n=4 per group).
