TLDR Finasteride is effective and safe for long-term treatment of hair loss in Japanese men.
The study evaluated the long-term efficacy and safety of 1 mg/day finasteride in 532 Japanese men with androgenetic alopecia over 10 years. Results showed that 91.5% of patients experienced improvement, and 99.1% prevented disease progression. The Norwood-Hamilton classification improved by approximately 1 grade, and the modified global photographic assessment score showed significant improvement. Subjective evaluations indicated high satisfaction and perceived improvement. No serious adverse reactions were reported, with only mild and temporary side effects in 6.8% of participants. The study concluded that long-term finasteride treatment was effective and safe for Japanese men with androgenetic alopecia, with better efficacy in early-stage patients.
