FAQs
- How does jojoba oil help with hair loss when applied to the scalp? Jojoba oil is used as a scalp and hair moisturiser, and animal studies suggest anti-inflammatory effects. No human study shows that it reduces hair loss.
- Can I use jojoba oil directly on my scalp, or should I mix it with another product? Jojoba oil is usually well tolerated on the skin and is often applied undiluted, but allergy can occur, so try a small patch first. No study shows that applying it alone or mixed with other products treats hair loss.
- Is jojoba oil better as a leave-in treatment or should it be rinsed out after a while? Jojoba oil can be left in as a light moisturiser or applied before washing and rinsed out; no study compares the two or shows either affects hair loss. Fine or oily hair may look greasy if it is left in.
- Can jojoba oil reduce scalp irritation or dryness that makes hair fall out more easily? Jojoba oil is used to moisturise dry skin, and a review of plant oils describes it as a possible option for a damaged skin barrier. No study shows that it reduces scalp irritation or hair loss.
- How often should I apply jojoba oil to see benefits for hair growth? There is no evidence that jojoba oil grows hair. As a scalp moisturiser, users commonly apply it a few times a week and adjust for greasiness.
