This case report describes a patient with lichen nitidus whose lesions improved following treatment with oral astemizole and topical steroids, although spontaneous resolution remains a possibility.
The conversation is about a user concerned about hairthinning despite using finasteride, minoxidil, RU58841, and recently adding dutasteride. Most responses suggest there is no noticeable difference in hair loss, attributing concerns to paranoia, and recommend continuing the current treatment or adjusting expectations.
The user experienced noticeable hair growth after starting dermarolling with a 1mm device, using minoxidil, and nizoral shampoo. They plan to reduce dermarolling frequency to three times a week and are considering additional treatments like finasteride or a hair transplant for increased hair density.
Start hair loss treatments early for best results. Finasteride, Dutasteride, Minoxidil, and microneedling are commonly used, with some users experiencing side effects but often regretting delayed treatment.
A 19-year-old has experienced worsening hair loss and thinning after using minoxidil and then finasteride, and has recently started dutasteride. They feel disappointed with the results and are seeking others' experiences for hope.
Tiny blond hairs on the vertex may indicate early hair regrowth from using dutasteride and minoxidil. Consistent treatment is advised, with potential for thicker hair over time, but a hair transplant might be needed for significant results.
Hair transplantation moves DHT-resistant follicles from a donor area (back and sides of the scalp) into thinning or bald areas. The transplanted hair is generally permanent, though surrounding native hair can keep thinning.
Does hair strand thickness decrease in men with androgenic alopecia? Can finasteride help restore it?Androgenic alopecia thins hair strands by miniaturizing follicles. The pivotal finasteride trials (1,553 men, 1 mg/day, two years) report increased hair counts and improved assessed appearance, but they measured density, not the diameter of individual strands, so the effect on thickness itself is not established.
Can a zinc deficiency directly cause hairthinning or increased shedding?Studies link low serum zinc to diffuse shedding and alopecia areata, and severe deficiency states cause hair loss that reverses when zinc is replaced. The evidence is mostly observational, the one supplementation study was small and uncontrolled, and zinc is not a treatment for pattern hair loss.
