August 2025 in “Bioengineering” The study evaluated the effectiveness of combining full-thickness skin columns (FTSC) with the TSN6 peptide to improve wound healing in pigs. Conducted on 32 excisional wounds in two pigs, the research found that by day 28, wounds treated with FTSC, particularly those with TSN6, showed significantly better healing outcomes, including over 94% closure and enhanced re-epithelialization, compared to only 20% closure in untreated wounds. The FTSC + TSN6 group demonstrated superior healing quality, with a thicker neo-epidermis and more rete ridges, indicating mature and functionally restored skin. The study concluded that FTSCs, especially when combined with TSN6, significantly enhance wound healing and reduce inflammation, although the small sample size suggests that further research is needed.
