October 2000 in “International Journal of Dermatology” A 37-year-old man developed a pustular eruption on the same area as a previous herpes zoster infection, initially suspected to be recurrent herpes zoster or folliculitis. Despite treatment for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, there was no improvement. Histopathologic studies confirmed eosinophilic pustular dermatosis, and further investigation revealed Trichophyton rubrum fungal folliculitis. The patient was treated with itraconazole pulse therapy and cycloproxolamine cream, resulting in significant improvement, with only a few pustules remaining after 2 months and complete resolution after 5 months.
