December 2015 in “Basrah Journal of veterinary Research” The study conducted on 81 local buffaloes in Basrah, Iraq, from September 2013 to April 2014, found that mineral deficiencies, particularly in zinc, cobalt, copper, and sulfur, were prevalent among the animals. The buffaloes, aged 3-6 years, exhibited symptoms such as partial or complete loss of appetite, pale mucous membranes, hair depigmentation, decreased milk production, parakeratosis, partial alopecia, generalized weakness, and interrupted diarrhea. Hematological examinations showed a significant decrease in TRBC, Hb, and PCV, indicating normocytic normochromic anemia. The deficiencies were more pronounced in buffaloes that grazed outdoors compared to those kept indoors, suggesting that poor grazing fields contributed to the mineral deficiencies.
