    GlossaryTestosterone Production (testosterone biosynthesis)

process by which the body generates the hormone testosterone

Testosterone production, also known as testosterone synthesis or androgen production, refers to the process by which the body generates testosterone, a key male sex hormone. This process primarily occurs in the testes in men and in smaller amounts in the ovaries in women and the adrenal glands in both sexes. Testosterone plays a crucial role in the development of male reproductive tissues, the maintenance of muscle mass, bone density, and the regulation of libido. The production is regulated by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland through a feedback loop involving luteinizing hormone (LH).
