January 2023 in “Annals of African Medicine” This case report discusses the treatment of aggressive periodontitis in a 24-year-old female patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The patient exhibited symptoms such as hair loss, weakness, leg edema, and arthralgia. Diagnosed with SLE a year prior, she presented with generalized widening of spaces between her teeth. The treatment involved nonsurgical periodontal therapy, flap surgery, debridement, root conditioning with tetracycline, and the placement of bovine osseous xenograft in areas of angular bone loss. Follow-ups at 6 months and 8 years showed satisfactory clinical and radiographic outcomes, supporting the use of xenograft in treating aggressive periodontitis in patients with SLE.
