December 2017 in “Annals of Dermatological Research” This case report described two patients, a 27-year-old male and a 54-year-old female, who were initially misdiagnosed with androgenetic alopecia but were later correctly diagnosed with Lichen Planopilaris (LPP) through dermatoscopic and histopathological analysis. Both patients exhibited symptoms such as scalp thinning, erythema, and pruritus. After the correct diagnosis, they were treated with clobetasol propionate foam, which successfully reduced inflammation, erythema, itching, and fibrosis, stabilizing the condition and preventing further hair loss. The report emphasized the importance of accurate and early diagnosis of LPP to prevent irreversible baldness and improve the quality of life for affected individuals.

January 2017 in “Journal of Investigative Dermatology Symposium Proceedings” The 2015 Hair Research Congress concluded that stem cells, maraviroc, and simvastatin could potentially treat Alopecia Areata, topical minoxidil, finasteride, and steroids could treat Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia, and PTGDR2 antagonists could also treat alopecia. They also found that low-level light therapy could help with hair loss, a robotic device could assist in hair extraction, and nutrition could aid hair growth. They suggested that Alopecia Areata is an inflammatory disorder, not a single disease, indicating a need for personalized treatments.
January 2020 in “Global dermatology” The study evaluated the effect of iontophoresis with a growth factor cocktail (GFC) containing fibroblast growth factor 5-short (FGF5s) on hair growth in 21 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Over 24 weeks, the right side of the scalp was treated with GFC and the left side with saline. Results showed a significant increase in hair density from 179.2±5.5/cm² to 193.9±5.3/cm² (p<0.0001) and a slight increase in hair diameter from 54.9±2.3 mm to 55.3±2.3 mm (p<0.0565) on the GFC-treated side, while the saline-treated side showed no significant changes. The study concluded that iontophoresis with GFC including FGF5s was effective for hair growth in AGA patients, but further research is needed to assess long-term efficacy.

November 2022 in “Frontiers in Medicine” This systematic review assessed the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating alopecia areata (AA) and primary cicatricial alopecias (PCAs) by analyzing 32 studies with 621 AA patients and 19 PCA patients. PRP showed promising results in AA, especially in mild cases, with better efficacy than placebo and similar efficacy to intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TA). PRP also had benefits as an adjunctive treatment. However, its efficacy in PCAs was less clear due to limited studies and variable responses. The review emphasizes the need for more high-quality, randomized controlled trials to confirm PRP's therapeutic potential in these conditions.
