January 2025 in “Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery” This study compared the efficacy of combined intralesional triamcinolone acetonide with topical calcipotriol versus intralesional triamcinolone acetonide monotherapy in treating alopecia areata (AA) on the scalp and beard. Conducted with 73 patients (179 patches), both treatment groups showed significant hair regrowth from the fourth week onward. However, no significant difference in terminal hair density was observed between the two groups overall. Subgroup analysis revealed that the combination treatment was more effective for scalp patches by the 12th week (P = .018) but not for beard patches. The combination treatment also resulted in more irritation but a lower incidence of atrophy compared to monotherapy.
