    GlossaryNonmelanoma Skin Cancer

refers to skin cancers excluding melanoma, like basal and squamous cell carcinomas

Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC) refers to a group of skin cancers that are not melanoma, the most common types being basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). These cancers typically develop in the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) and are usually caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. While NMSC is generally less aggressive than melanoma and has a higher survival rate, early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent potential disfigurement and complications.
