    GlossaryMyasthenia Gravis

autoimmune disorder causing muscle weakness and rapid fatigue

Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder characterized by weakness and rapid fatigue of voluntary muscles. It occurs when the immune system produces antibodies that block or destroy many of the muscle receptor sites for acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter essential for muscle contraction. This disruption impairs communication between nerves and muscles, leading to symptoms such as drooping eyelids, double vision, and difficulty swallowing or breathing.
